We were tasked with taking some well recognised traditional puppets into the digital realm for a high profile corporate client. The process started off with reference photography of each of the puppets which can then be used as the basis of photogrammetry and then hand modelling to match the personalities of each of the puppets.
The resulting meshes are textures and clothed and rigged for animation.
The resulting assets are then ready for either motion capture of hand animation across a variety of media. One of the key aspects of the move from traditional to digital was that the puppets retain their 'puppetness' as if they are being moved using the traditional armatures and pupating controls. This provided an extra creative challenge!
